Last season Rotherham were relegated from League One. They played twenty-three away league games and lost seventeen of them. Cheltenham started the season slowly and improved as it went on to eventually finish eighteenth, thirteen points clear of the relegation zone. They won nine of the twenty-three home league games they played last season. With the start of the new season, hopefully Cheltenham can make a better start than they did last season. If they do, then every chance they can get the better of Rotherham and collect all three points.

For much of last season Middlesbrough looked to be heading for a return to the Premiership. They then faltered towards the end of the season and lost the play-off final. At home against newly promoted Lincoln City, they should be able to start with a win.

Last season Norwich finished ninth on sixty-five points, whilst West Brom finished one place above the relegation zone on fifty-one points. The last time Norwich welcomed West Brom was in an FA Cup game, which saw the home side win.

Although Coventry won promotion from the Championship, it would be a major surprise if the defending Premiership champions did not get off to a winning start. We have often seen a large gap between teams coming up from the Championship and established Premiership teams. No reason to think this will be anything other than a home win for Arsenal.

Last season, Hull finished sixth in the Championship and won promotion to the Premiership, having beaten Middlesbrough in the play-off final after Southampton were thrown out. Manchester United finished third in last season's Premiership table. The last away Premiership game played by Manchester United saw them win at Brighton by scoring three goals and conceding none. If they start the season as they finished last, then there is every chance Manchester United can see off one of the newcomers to the Premiership.

At the end of last season, Everton finished slightly higher in the table than Crystal Palace. Since then, Palace have appointed a new manager who has come from France. Given the stability in the Everton team and with David Moyes still in charge, I'm going for Everton to make a winning start to the new season.

Last season Leeds finished three points ahead of Nottingham Forest. Forest won their first home pre-season friendly. So, with home advantage and having beaten Leeds in this fixture last season, I'm taking Forest to make a winning start to the new season.

Last season, Sunderland were the surprise package of the Premiership. However, that is not a guarantee they will obtain another top-seven finish this season. Ipswich won promotion last season, having finished runners-up to Coventry. The last time Ipswich welcomed Sunderland, they won.

Following a change of manager, Tottenham began to find some form at the end of last season and eventually finished one place above the relegation zone. Their last two visits to Brentford saw them collect four points. The manager has now had plenty of time to work with the players, so I expect Spurs to make a winning start to the new season.

Aston Villa have won the last three meetings between these two teams, two of which were away from home. Last season Villa finished above Brighton in the table and come into this game as the Europa League champions.

Both teams start the new season with a new manager. This will be Maresca's third time at City, but his first as manager. He inherits a squad full of talented players. Last season City finished runners-up behind Arsenal, and they will be looking to make a winning start to the new campaign.

Newcastle have yet to fully live up to expectations under manager Eddie Howe since he took charge in November 2021. They finished below Liverpool in last season's Premiership table. Liverpool's away form towards the end of last season was not good. Their last seven away fixtures saw them win one and lose six. Since then they have appointed the previous Bournemouth manager, Andoni Iraola, as their head coach. It may take a while for the new man in charge to get the team playing as he wants. With the stability of Eddie Howe's tenure at Newcastle, take the home side to start with a win.

Last season Fulham and Chelsea finished level on fifty-two points. Fulham were a decent side at home, winning eleven of their nineteen home games. They won three of their last four home games, and if starting in the same sort of form should have every chance of repeating the success they had in this fixture last season.
